Yes, you can continue on since you are wanting it larger.

Thanks Teresa. I did round 9 as is and ended up with 62 sc. If I did 55 there would have been too much of a gap to join. My count was correct on the previous round. I don’t know how I ended up with 62. Should I just continue on with round 10?

You should still do round 9 as it is. Round 10 will be revised for more increase stitches. I do have it written in my crochet blog at the end of the pattern.

Okay, I’m confused. I’m at round 9 (per written instructions). Should I continue with this round? Should round 10 be a round of 1 SC in each stitch and then row 11 be as you suggested above. I noticed from the previous rounds after each increase you are adding a round of 1 single SC. Basically what I’m asking is, should I omit round 9 as per your written instructions and substitute it with what you are suggesting above? Please advise…and thank your patience and for all your help today.

I added increase instructions to my crochet blog. In round 10, approximately every 5-6 stitches, you will do 2 single crochet in each stitch. You will have about 10 increases. That will give you approximately 65 single crochet instead of 55.

I’m sorry, I don’t understand how you are increasing…so after round 9 what am I going to do? I am really new at this and I’m basically just following your instructions. After round 9, how many increases should I do and how do I do it? Thanks.

You can use a larger hook. You can also add another round of increase stitches.

Teresa, to make the cap larger to fit a man’s head, do I use a bigger crochet hook? I want to use a J hook. I tried the hook you used (I) when I did my first one and it was too small for his head. What do you suggest?

thanks for the link. I will try it and let you know how it turned out. Your videos are great…so easy to follow. Keep up the good work. Oh, and thanks for responding so promptly.

I am going to reply here and send you a video link to an alternative way to tackle seams. What you can do is stagger the joining by cutting the yarn and attaching the new color in a different location.

I completed my first beanie cap watching your video. thx. The seam did not match up at all and i didn’t know how to correct it. I used a sugar and cream worsted weight yarn (green and white). It looked really nice. However, the seam did not mach up and I didn’t know how to correct it, but it looked okay anyhow. I am in the process of making a second one for my husband. I am using a size J hook (will this make the cap bigger?). I am on the 4th row but I have 26 stitches instead of 27. HELP

That is a very good question. The crochet hook size does determine the size of the cap along with the yarn you use and your individual crochet style. It plays a big part but there are other variables that can make your cap turn out smaller. I used a size “I” crochet hook.

I made this cap and, when I was finished, noticed that my cap is very small. I realized that I didn’t pay any attention to needle size or anything. I just started crocheting and bought a stupid book that came with needles… I grabbed the biggest one to make this hat but it’s so small. Is needle size what decides the size of the hat? I know this sounded really dumb, I just clearly know nothing about crocheting, but I really want to do it!

Carrying yarn as demonstrated in the video is saving on yarn. If you cut the yarn, the tails will be longer that what you have carried. The tails might be 5-6″ long. I am not crocheting over the yarn as I go around. The carried yarn stays at the beginning, until I get back around and pick it up to change color.

wouldn’t ‘carrying yarn’ waste it? just thinking out loud, and trying to decide which would be the best technique to use!?!

You can type in the keywords, crochet earflaps and the tutorial will come up. They can be done in stripes.

Thanks! If I figure out a way to continue the stripes in an oblong fashion, I’ll let you know! Maybe it’ll work in a single color too. I’m new at this and really learn from you! Thanks again!

I do have a tutorial for ear flaps. I don’t know if they are something you would like or not. These are rounded and I know a lot have asked for oblong earflaps. I do plan on making an oblong earflap tutorial.

This is a great cap! Thank you! Any thoughts on how to add ear flaps? I have tried to continue the stripes in a triangle shape, but it gets lopsided! Thanks, I have learned so much from you!

I love your videos! I’ve already improved by viewing them. Thank you very much! I do have a question about carrying yarn. Can you explain more on how to do that? Thank you very much for taking the time to show us how to crochet!

You are welcome.
I have a lot of ideas. Feel free to ask if you are looking for something. I may have already made a tutorial with what you are looking for.

Thanks once again for the great instructions.. It makes it so much easier watching you do it, then it would be to just read the directions.. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING..
