    Bad chemistry mr stickman. When h2o is decomposed the atoms can’t stay in elemental form. H bonds with h to from h2 o bond o to form o2. There will be twice as many h2 as o2.

    But still, this is not electrolysis. Read Desr95’s link :)

    Sorry dude, youre still wrong, you can’t say
    O2 because there is only ONE oxygen atom, so if you put a “2″ after the O,that indicates it’s 2 Oxygen atoms, wich it’s not. :P

    The energy in the batteries causes a process (gah i forgot what its called) which liberates the hydrogen atoms from water molecules, so from H2O you get H2 (hydrogen gas) and a free oxygen molecule which bonds with other oxygen molecules to make oxygen gas
    both of these substances are rediculously flammable, SOOO, its not the water burning, but the gasses floating in the air above it

    Ummm, you’re wrong. H(or O) is an atom, as is H1(or O1), because those are different semantic expressions for the same object.
    Some atoms are afraid to be alone, like kids, and make molecules. O2 is a molecule because the two oxygen atoms form a bond. O1 is not a molecule. H1 is not a molecule. H2 is; called Hydrogen gas. So, for this reaction to occur, it takes at least two water molecules to make two smaller(H2) molecules and one larger(O2) molecules. Sometimes peroxide is formed (H2O2).
